Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 gets a 48V mild hybrid system

To avoid the high taxes introduced in some European countries and because of the upcoming Euro 7 standards, the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 gets a 48V mild hybrid system just like the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35.

After the facelift announced for the Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB, Mercedes-Benz is also making some changes to similar AMG models. Thus, the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 and GLB 35 will get a 48V mild hybrid system with a belt-driven starter generator that supports the combustion engine at acceleration with 14 PS (13.8 HP).

Both models use the same 306 PS (302 HP), and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) 2-liter turbocharged engine mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.

Full LED headlights and LED taillights, and an AMG Performance steering wheel are now standard, while the wheel arches are now painted in body color, and the lower bumper has a new design. Multibeam LED headlights are optional.

Also available are new AMG wheel designs: 19-inch 10-spoke and two 20-inch 5-twin-spoke models, all in two-tone matt black with turned surface finish. Bahia brown is also available for the Artico leather and microcut microfiber trim combination, and Artico leather trim can also be ordered in sage grey/black.

The two models, the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 and GLB 35, will be available this summer. Also available this summer will be an upgraded version of the top version Mercedes-AMG GLA 45, about which Mercedes still needs to give information.

Facelifted models will be produced until at least 2025, when a new generation will be introduced. The first model of the next generation of compact models will be the CLA in autumn 2024, which will use the new MMA platform, designed primarily for the electric drive but which can also accommodate conventional and Plug-in hybrid drives.

The next generation of compact models from Mercedes-Benz will have fewer models, with the A-Class hatch and sedan and B-Class going off the lineup. Instead, the CLA, CLA Shooting Brake, GLA, GLB, and the electric versions EQA and EQB will remain.
