Porsche Vision 357 Concept Celebrates 75 Years of Porsche

Porsche is celebrating 75 years of existence and decided the world should know about it by creating the Vision 357. The Porsche Vision 357 is a conceptual successor to the first-ever production Porsche, the 356. The 356 with its lightweight and nimble-handling, rear-engine, rear-wheel drive formed the basis for the Porsche 911 formula for the next 75 years. The Porsche 357 Concept is a modern interpretation. Whereas the original 356 from 1948 utilized a 1.1-litre air-cooled engine with 40bhp, the Vision 357 is slightly more powerful.

The Porsche 357 Concept is actually powered by a real engine, a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 493 hp 449 Nm of torque, with a maximum rev range of 9,000rpm. The engine is currently used in the 718 GT4 RS.

There are no plans to put the Vision 357 Concept into production, it is a show car intended to pay homage to its predecessor and form the basis of a year-long celebration of the Porsche brand. It is corporate pride on display.

The celebrations kick off with the special exhibition ‘Driven by Dreams. 75 years of Porsche sports cars, which opens on 27 January in the ‘DRIVE. Volkswagen Group Forum’ in Berlin and will run until 10 September 2023.

Just one thing bothers me, why did they not call it the Vision 75 Concept, or Vision 375?
